Brick Shift, this is how it all started

Brick Shift launched in January 2016. This is my personal story about what it took to get, to where we are now – and the future ahead of us.

Looking back

It all started, because I kept finding more and more beautiful, creative and great LEGO photography, and I wanted the collect it all for my own inspiration. As I started finding and “featuring” more and more images, the following grew, quickly. A 100 followers in just the first day, 500 the next – 3 days later we passed 1.000 followers.

It was at day 3 I knew I wasn’t the only one, who wanted a collection of great LEGO inspiration.

From that day on, I set out on a mission. A mission defining how I could best collect and showcase all this great content. I knew I had to create a website, and since I’m a web developer / web designer by trade, that wasn’t the hard part.

The hard part though, was finding the time to create it – Having a family, a full time job, and other side projects. As well as finding and sharing hundreds of images, for the Instagram account. I ultimately had enough – It was this summer, 2016.

Months passed, and it wasn’t until Christmas that year, where I finally had some alone-time, even though I had just become a father – for the first time – that I really set out to lay the ground work on the BrickShift.com. I set up a plan for the content-gathering, made a list of necessary things to have on the website, and the Instagram account blossomed back up again.

What’s next for Brick Shift?

While I’m continuing to share at least 3 images a day on Instagram, I am committed to uploading them on the website. Right now, I’m researching each and every image I publish, in order to find the sets used (Brickset is my trusty friend here), so you guys can recreate the scenes, and become even better photographers yourself.

I’m currently making the Creator section of the website. Here you’ll be able to upload all your images, and share them with your friends and family. Ultimately this will become the proving ground for new talent. A place to get feedback on your images, and share ideas for the next. At least that’s my dream. And out of all those images submitted, I will continue to hand-pick the best of the best.

The website will outgrow Instagram some day. That’s why I’m soon opening up for the opportunity of sharing higher resolution images on the website. Creating series of images. Perhaps you’ll even be able to sell them, some day. Anyways, that’s the future. But it might not be that far away.

I hope you’ll join me on this journey, and have your other AFOL’s and TFOL’s join as well. This is for the community – By the community.
